RICKEY O. MONROE , 66, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away suddenly Saturday afternoon, February 10, 2018 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 14th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Ida Grove Cemetery at Ida Grove, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Rickey was born October 13, 1951 at Ida Grove, Iowa to Ralph & Ruby (Fletcher) Monroe. He graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1969. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Alaska. He was married to Jane Meyer on December 31, 1972 at Larrabee, Iowa and to this union, a daughter Amanda was born.

Rickey had worked for Wilson Foods, Tysons, and Continental Deli for 40 plus years before retiring. He was currently a seasonal worker at the Dupont-Pioneer Plant north of Aurelia. He was a member of Abate of Iowa. Rickey enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going to car shows with his classic car, fishing, and spending time with his family,especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his longtime companion Sue Hill of Cherokee, Iowa; one daughter: Amanda Monroe-Rubendall and her husband Christopher of Cherokee, Iowa and their children Leighton and Sebastian; Sue's children: Jamin Tremmel and his wife Tami of Rapid City, South Dakota and their children Jensen and Olivia; Matthew Hill and his wife Sheena of Aberdeen, South Dakota and their children Brynn, Kason, and Samuel; one sister: Robin Thornhill and her husband Mike of Ida Grove, Iowa.
