ROBERT D. "BOB" LUNDELL, 88, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, July 21, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 26th, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be military rites at the cemetery by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Bob was born on November 30, 1928 at Cherokee, Iowa to Harry & Esther (Hultman) Lundell. He attended Meriden School. He was married to Penny (Cox) Burch on July 26, 1985 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Bob established Lundell Construction Co. in 1948. He also owned several other businesses over the years including; Best Western LaGrande Hacienda Motel, Sanitary Services, Shea Sand & Gravel, and co-owner Solid Waste Services in Sioux City, Iowa. He always retained an interest in his businesses.
Bob was a longtime member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He had served in the Iowa National Guard for eight years. He was active in many organizations over the years; Republican Party, Cherokee Flying Club, Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, Cherokee Industrial Corporation, National Solid Waste Management Association, Associated General Contractors of Iowa, Land Improvement Contractors of America, Best Western International, and Iowa Lodging Association.
Bob enjoyed, golfing, traveling in the motorhome and going abroad, FOX News, reading newspapers to keep up on current events.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Esther Lundell, two brothers Kenneth Lundell, Vernon Lundell and his wife Waldene, brother-in-law Harvey Stratton.
He is survived by his wife Penny; his children: Mary (Lowell) Wascher of Warsaw, Missouri; Mark (Ann) Lundell of Cherokee, Iowa; Tom (Corrine) Lundell of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Matt (Ami) Burch of Cherokee, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren: Travis (Amber) Wascher and their children Jaiden and Jamesin of Raleigh, North Carolina; Christina (Eric) Ostovic and their children Isabella and Isaac of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Sara (Brandon) Lucas and their children Kai and Cord of Cherokee, Iowa; Eric (Kelly) Lundell and their children Carson and Piper of Cherokee, Iowa; Molly (Nate) Patterson and their children Mesa, Thomas and Cole of Cherokee, Iowa; Katlynn, Jadyn and Gavin Burch of Cherokee, Iowa; sister Genevieve Stratton of Cherokee, Iowa; mother-in-law Jan Cox of Sutherland, Iowa; three brothers-in-law Randy Cox of Cherokee, Iowa; Billy (Carol) Cox of Sutherland, Iowa; Dave (Connie) Cox of Clermont, Florida; also several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
