Obituary

Robert E. "Bob" Goodwin, 79, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Cherokee Regional Medical Center Saturday, January 30, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, February 4th, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Bob was born April 28, 1936 at Ida Grove, Iowa to Howard and Marie (Hanson) Goodwin. He graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1955.
He was married to Myrna Jane Cowan at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee on June 21, 1959. To this union, three children were born: Nancy Jean, Dennis Dean and David Boyd.
Bob was a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1953 until enlisting in the Air Force in August, 1956. He served in the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing in the Periodic Maintenance Squadron and Headquarters section at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas. He was honorably discharged in September, 1964.

Bob had a town and country milk route with Wells Dairy Company for several years. He then earned his Barbering Certificate from the Sioux City Barber College in December, 1976. He retired in August, 2001.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, serving as a Trustee from 2011-2013; Cherokee Depot Renovation, Inc.; American Legion Post 670 in Larrabee, Iowa; the Quimby Golf Club; and was a 25 year member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International, serving two terms as President of the North Iowa Unit.

Bob enjoyed spending winters in Arizona, and traveled to each state in the U.S.A.; he enjoyed all sports, playing golf, watching old movies, working jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Boyd Goodwin on April 2, 1975; his parents, a brother Harold Goodwin, a sister-in-law Joyce Goodwin Linman.

He is survived by his wife, Myrna; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jeff Sivinski of Cherokee, IA; son Dennis Goodwin and his partner Rodney Schwatken, of Leavenworth, KS; grandson, Andrew Sivinski of Marcus, IA; granddaughter Ivy (Steven) Doeden of Cleghorn, IA; granddaughter Staci Sivinski of Cherokee; great-grandchildren, DeLani, Deidra, Tate and Dru Doeden and Jeffrey "Cash" Sivinski; his sister-in-law and her husband Marlys and Gary Nelson, of Lakeville, MN; his nephew, Jeff (Melanie) Goodwin and their children Sarah and Cole; his niece, Angela (Wade) McGuire and their son Max.
