ROBERT LUVERNE HARTWIG, 93 of Aurelia, Iowa and formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away peacefully Friday morning, July 20, 2018 in the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 25
th
, at 1 p.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa.
Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Aurelia, Iowa with military rites by the American Legion and the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 12:45 p.m. at the church on Wednesday.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee from 12 Noon until service time with the family present at that time.

Robert was born on March 1, 1925 on the family farm southeast of Cherokee, Iowa to Albert & Ella (Stieneke) Hartwig. He attended Aurelia Schools through the eighth grade. He was a veteran of WW II serving as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army. He farmed all his life, retiring in 1985. He lived on the family farm most of his life until moving into Cherokee in the later years. He saw many changes over the years; going from kerosene lamps to electricity, farming with horses to tractors and picking corn by hand to combining his corn. Robert was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee and a 70 year member of Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia, Iowa. He enjoyed traveling for many years to different parts of the United States and overseas. His favorite trip was the African Safari Tour. Robert volunteered his time to deliver mobile meals and was a blood donor for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister-in-law John (Dorothy) Hartwig, Ralph Hartwig, and an infant brother Dean Hartwig.
He is survived by two sisters: Ruth (Bill) Klotz of Ankeny, Iowa; Joyce (Ivan) Stead of Surprise, Arizona; 4 nieces and nephews: Peggy (Loren) Kolpin of Grinnell, Iowa; Shirley (Dave) Pierce of Aurelia, Iowa; Dr. Stan (Judy) Stead of Encino, California; Randy (Valene) Stead of Sammamish, Washington; also several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
