ROBERT W. "BOB" HIRSCHMAN, 84, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 28, 2015 in the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 1st at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from

Bob was born on February 6, 1931 at Pierson, Iowa to Elmer & Fannie (Runion) Hirschman. He attended Pierson School until the 6th grade and Washta Schools, graduating in 1950. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1948-1958. Bob was married to Alyce Powell on August 18, 1950 at Correctionville, Iowa. He had worked as a carpenter with his father for several years, Lundell Manufacturing, Brown Auto Suppy and South Side Supply, retiring in 1993. He owned and operated A&B Sharpn'It (a saw sharpening service) following his retirement to keep himself busy. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1956 and prior to this in Washta from 1941-1956. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He belonged to a neighborhood card club, Relay For Life, helped fold the church newsletter, served on various church boards, and was a former Cub Scout leader. Bob enjoyed fishing, playing cards, especially solitaire, going to Branson, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching polka, Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right on the television.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Wes (Louise) Hirschman, Delmer (Delores)Hirschman, Donald (Barb) Hirschman, Kenny (Alda) Hirschman; sisters-in-law Mary Leriger, Becky Bennett, Rachel Hefner, Bertha "Teeny" Weiland; brothers-in-law Joe, Dave, and George Powell, Kenny Byerly and Carlos Moles.

He is survived by his wife Alyce; his five children: Willie (Bev) Hirschman of Archer, Iowa; Kris (Larry) Johnson of DeSoto, Kansas; Jeff (JoAnne) Hirschman of Alta, Iowa; Jolene (Vernon) Fick of Cherokee, Iowa; Bryce Hirschman of Lawrence, Kansas; 8 grandchildren: LuAnn Bobolz, Joel (Laura) Hirschman, Jenni (Ryan) Blackman, Jessica (Jarrod) Garrison, Melissa, Kristina, Molly and Mitchell Fick; 7 great grandchildren: Ryan, Evan and Callie Bobolz; Carley and Taylor Hirschman; Lane and Grace Garrison; 4 step grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Viola Byerly, Elizabeth "Toots" Moles, Maurine Powell, Carol Peterson and MariAnne Powell; brothers-in-law: Sam (Janet) Jenkins and Eugene Weiland.
