ROBERT D. MORTENSON, 88, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday evening, April 9, 2015 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 14th, at 10:30 at Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Tim Hunter and Rev. Merle Wester will officiate. Burial will be at Good Hope Cemetery, rural Cherokee at a later date. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com

Robert was born March 15, 1927 at Cherokee, Iowa to Frans and Anna Sophia (Peterson) Mortenson He attended Silver Township School #2 and graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1944. Bob was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was married to Lorraine Wester on November 24, 1950 at the Oakdale Church. He had farmed all his life, retiring in November of 2013. He and Lorraine moved off the farm where he had lived for 63 years into Cherokee. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist church and in later years the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church. He had served on the Willow School Board, the R.E.C. Board, Production Credit Association and served in many offices at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He enjoyed coffee with friends and family, telling stories and especially time spent with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Everett and Walter Mortenson, two sisters Frances Erlandson and Mildred Mortenson, brothers & sister-in-law Burton Lundell, Roy Wester, Dale & Pat Wester, Vernon & Ruby Wester and Harold Stewart.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine, four children; Thomas (Shelley) Mortenson of Cherokee, IA, LuAnn (Dennis) Jacobson of Storm. Lake, IA; Joel (Barbara) Mortenson of Carroll, IA; Jodene (Robert) Johnson of Dallas, TX; 7 grandchildren; Kory (Jackie) Mortenson and their children Ellana, Lincoln, Kristian and Korbin of Cherokee, IA, Bethany Mortenson of Denver, CO, Kiera Jacobson and fiance Ivan Mendoza of Wellington, New Zealand, Trevor Jacobson of Mineral Point, WI, Jared Mortenson of Des Moines, IA, Jolyn Mortenson of Kansas City, KS, Kelsey Johnson of Dallas, TX; a sister Dorothy Stewart of Davenport, Iowa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Gladys Mortenson of Cherokee, IA, Bud Erlandson of Wakefield, NE, Eleanor Lundell of Paullina, IA, Elsie Wester of Cherokee, IA, Merle & Eleda Wester of Cherokee, IA, Evelyn & Karl Kludas of Cherokee, IA, Larry & Jeanette Johnson of Meriden, IA.
