ROBERT H. SCHROEDER, 87, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Monday afternoon,
March 9, 2009 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14th, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Larry Lemke will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be military rites at the cemetery by the V.F.W. Visitation will be on Friday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Robert was born October 7, 1921 in Plymouth County, Iowa to Claus and Rose (Grauer) Schroeder. He was baptized May 21, 1922 and confirmed March 21, 1937in the Lutheran Faith. He attended Marcus Community Schools. He entered the military service in September of 1942 and was discharged in January of 1946. He was married to Gladys Schwenn on May 21, 1943 at the Air Force Base in Greenville, Mississippi. He operated a trucking business from 1946 until 1951. In 1951 he started farming and in 1961 he bought a farm northwest of Quimby and farmed there until his retirement in 1983. He continued living on the farm until moving to Cherokee in 1989. He enjoyed playing dartball and doing woodworking projects. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee and various church groups.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Dorothy Ogren and Lorraine Schouten.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys and one sister: Fern Brandt of Overland Park, Kansas; also several nieces and nephews.
