ROBERT B. SWEGLE, 80, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Fairfield, Corydon and Ft. Dodge, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, January 18, 2016, at his home in Houston surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23rd at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Mr. Bob Blair will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Robert was born on June 11, 1935 at Corydon, Iowa to Ben & Irene (Kaldenberg) Swegle. He graduated from Corydon High School in 1953 and then attended Iowa State earning a two year degree. He was in the manufacturing business, owned his own business and was an oil and gas executive, retiring in 2002. He was married to Geraldine Hirschman-Brownlee on November 16, 1979 at Fairfield, Iowa. He was a member of the Bear Creek United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, going to grandkids sporting and school events and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben & Irene Swegle, a brother Jack Swegle, a sister Charlotte Swegle Evans, father-in-law and mother-in-law Wesley and Louise Hirschman.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine of Houston, Texas; James (Carol) Swegle of West Des Moines, Iowa; David (Glenda) Swegle of Nevada, Iowa; Tom Swegle of Ankeny, Iowa; John (Sarah) Swegle of Mason City, Iowa; Mark (Carrie) Brownlee of Fairfield, Iowa; Michelle (James) Bearb of Cypress, Texas; Matthew (Carissa) Brownlee of Katy, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Sandy Swegle of Edina, Minnesota; brother-in-law Arnold Evans of Kerrville, Texas; sister-in-law Mary (Cliff) Oblinger of Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Jane (Rockie) Bork of Remsen, Iowa; and sister-in-law Patty Sivesind of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
