Simmons on June 7, 1944 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Bob took pride in the family farm. He started farming with his father Irving, and also farmed his own farm near Quimby until moving to a farm in Pilot Township in 1954, where he farmed until his retirement in 2006. In 1974, his son Marty joined the farming operation and they later formed Torrey & Son Farms. In 1978 they acquired part of the Simmons Century Farm. He enjoyed his horses and always had a trusting dog at his side. He was a member of the Cherokee County Jr. Farm Bureau. He had been a crop insurance adjuster for 20 years. Bob loved working with the farmers and their families and settling their needs. He took great pride in this. He had served as an original board member for the Cherokee County Public Health; having been honored for his lengthy service with special focus on assisting the elderly and their needs. He was a lifelong member of the St Paul's United Methodist Church and had served on the finance board when he was younger.
