Obituary

RODNEY R. BAINBRIDGE, 76, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.  Pastor Mike Agnew will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  The family requests those coming to visitation or the funeral service to dress casually as that was Rodney's wish. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Rodney was born on February 19, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa to Vernon and Mildred (Ferris) Bainbridge.  He attended Quimby and Willow Schools, graduating in 1965.  He was united in marriage on October 23, 1970 to Priscilla Jenness at Wayne, Nebraska.

Rodney worked for Wilson Foods and Tyson Foods for 46 years, working in many departments over the years and retired as a supervisor on March 30, 2011.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa.

Rodney loved to have coffee with his friends at Mud on Main, his coffee group in Alta, Iowa and Sunday morning coffee at McDonald's. He was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeyes Fan.  He was an avid walker putting in many miles on the track at the Cherokee Fitness Center and Spring Lake Park path.  He enjoyed golfing, square dancing, bowling, fishing, and going on motorcycle trips throughout the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, sister Judy Law, brothers-in-law Gerald McKenzie and Gordon Carstens, sisters-in-laws Betty McKenzie and Annabelle McKenzie, son-in-law Marlin Wielenga, niece Pamela Carstens, and great grandson Dylan Schleef.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Priscilla of Cherokee, Iowa; three daughters: Jodi Wielenga of Orange City, Kelli Harmon and special friend Harry Brutsman of Cherokee, Iowa, and Staci (Mark) Schleef of Cherokee, Iowa; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; brother Roger (Bonni) Bainbridge of Cherokee, Iowa; sister Beth (Tom) Mote of Branson, Missouri; sister-in-law Joan Carstens of Aurelia, Iowa and brother-in-law Stanley (Mary Jo) McKenzie of Rogers, Arkansas.
