ROGER R. "Tubby" ASKVIG SR., 67, of Cleghorn, Iowa and formerly of Burnside, Kentucky, passed away Saturday morning, February 28, 2015 in the St. Luke's Unity Point Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Jeff Harris will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa. There will be military rites at the graveside by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. Roger was born on November 8, 1947 at Rockford, Illinois to Charles and Betty (White) Askvig. He attended school in Rockford. He was married to Linda Flach on October 16, 1965 at Rockford, Illinois. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an over the rode truck driver, owning and operating his own truck until his health failed and he was forced to retire. He enjoyed watching television and loved to talk to his family and friends on the phone. He had just moved to Cleghorn, Iowa two weeks ago along with his son Jeff and wife Rosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law Karen Askvig in 2014.
He is survived by his five children: Charles (Cindy) Askvig of Sommerset, Kentucky; Roger Askvig Jr. of Quimby, Iowa; Tereasa (Steve) Julius of Monticello, Kentucky; Jeff (Rosa) Askvig of Cleghorn, Iowa; Tonya Askvig of Monticello, Kentucky; 18 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister: Gary (Vicki) Askvig of Rockford, Illinois; Gordon (Debra) Askvig of Rockford, Illinois; Linda Askvig of Monticello, Kentucky; a half-brother Earl (Linda) Olson of Luverne, Minnesota; also several nieces and nephews.
