Obituary

ROGER BIRD, 62, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa

Memorial services will be held Monday, October 1st at 10:30 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Dave Harkins will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Roger was born May 16, 1950 at Sacramento, California to Donald Darrell and Winogene (Bennett) Bird. He graduated from high school and attended Lewis & Clark State College and North Idaho College where he received a BA degree in business in 1986. Roger had worked as a welder and was a manager of a pawn shop in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. He had lived in Coeur D'Alene from 1970 until 1998, when he moved to Cherokee. He was affiliated with the Calvary Chapel at Larrabee, Iowa. He was a member of multiple hunting and fishing organizations. He had been a little league coach, taught archery, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and participated in a number of fishing derbies.

He was preceded in death by his father Donald Darrell Bird, his step-father Joe T. Cain, a brother Randall Obe in infancy, a grandson Joseph Charles Bird in infancy and one great granddaughter Kailynn Fitzpatrick.

He is survived by his children; Machelle Lee (Charles) Wester of Frederica, Delaware; Dawn Marie Bird of Arnold, Missouri; Robin Lynn Bird of West Frankfort, Illinois; Mary Susanna Bird of Murphysboro, Illinois; Darrell Roger Bird Jr. of Mankato, Minnesota; Jessica Briley of Cherokee, Iowa; his nmother Winogene Cain of Cherokee, Iowa; 24 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his siblings; Ronald (Karen) Obe of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Joe Ben (Sheila) Cain II of Goodyear, Arizona; Susan (David) Harkins of Larrabee, Iowa; Derek (Jennifer) Cain of Spokane, Washington; Bruce (Carla) Cain of Hazelton, Pennsylvania; David (Joey) Cain of Cherokee, Iowa.
