ROGER D. "DUKE" DUCOMMUN, 77, of Cleghorn, Iowa, passed away Tuesday morning, May 11, 2010 at his home following a brief illness.
Graveside memorial services for friends and family will be held on Friday, May 14th, at 11 a.m. at the Meriden Cemetery at Meriden, Iowa. Rev. Bob Blair will officiate. It was Roger's wishes to be cremated. There will be no visitation. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements. Roger was born on December 8, 1932 at Meriden, Iowa to Ralph & Agnetta (Klechner) Ducommun. He graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1950. He had farmed most of his life, milked cows and did custom work. He retired from farming in the early 1980's. He then drove truck for Wetherell Manufacturing until 1992. He spent the last 35 years with Susan Ducommun Briese. Politics and racing were his main interests. He liked Nascar Racing with his favorite driver being Terry LaBonte back in the days and Kyle Busch in recent years. But his main love was dirt track racing, where he was a car owner for very many successful years. He continued to enjoy modified racing, helping his son Jason and seeing all his friends at the track. He will be missed. He had the most admiration and love for his grandmother Mrs. Emil (Mary) Ducommun. No one compared to her.
He was preceded in death by his parents, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by Susan Briese, his 4 children: Greg (Becky) Ducommun of Barstow, California; Mike Ducommun of Reno, Nevada; Jill (Bob) Thompson of Leesburg, Florida; Jason Briese of Cleghorn , Iowa and his special friend Kathie Brown; 4 grandchildren: Tim, Meaghan & Mike Ducommun of New York and Jessica Ducommun of Barstow, California; one aunt Nolie Stieneke and her husband Ronald of Sioux City, Iowa; mother-in-law Phyllis Briese of Meriden, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Lonnie Briese of Hartford, South Dakota; Randy Briese of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and sister-in-law Janell Purdy of Beggs, Oklahoma; special friend of the family Sheri Robinson; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
