ROGER V. NELSON, 81, of rural Meriden, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in the Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, Iowa. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Nelson Jenkins and Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, Iowa The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Roger's name to be made to the Meriden Evangelical Free Church Youth Group Organizations. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Roger was born on May 29, 1942 to Robert and Lucille (Johnson) Nelson at Cherokee, Iowa. He attended Meriden Schools, graduating in 1960. He went on to attend Iowa State and Buena Vista College earning his Bachelor's degree.
Roger was united in marriage to Sharon Skaggs on June 4, 1965, they had three children, Scott, Doug, and Brenda.
Roger worked as a farmer and truck driver.
He was a member of Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, Iowa. He served on the Elevator Board, Meriden-Cleghorn School Board, and held different positions on the M.E.F.C Church Board.
In his free time, he enjoyed boating, fishing, metal fabrication projects, four-wheeling in Arizona, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roger is survived by his wife, Sharon of Meriden, Iowa; children Scott (Anita) Nelson of Omaha, Nebraska, Doug (Kalli) Nelson of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Brenda Nelson Stadheim of Woodbury, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, Calista, Zachary, Indigo, Tristin, Marlin, Isabella, and Derek; siblings, Klarice (David) Anderson of Vancouver, Washington, Kathryn (Kerry) Kirkpatrick of Ankeny, Iowa, and Richard Nelson of Meriden, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
