ROGER DEAN PETERSON, 82, of Hartley, Iowa, formerly of rural Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at USD Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home located at 207 E. Main Street in Cherokee, Iowa.  Mr. Don Tisthammer will officiate.  Visitation with the family present will take place on Monday, January 26th from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Boothby Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. Roger was born on August 10, 1943 to Clarence and Haleria (Voss) Peterson.  He graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1962.  He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from  1964 – 1966.  He worked as a farmer after returning from his military service.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa.

In his free time, he enjoyed collecting toy tractors, traveling in the Midwest, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, adult coloring, completing word searches, and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Richard and Duane Peterson and sister Joanne (Dennis) Lundsgaard, and many of his beloved dogs.

Roger is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver, Bryan Chase of Hartley, Iowa; sisters Barbara Anglin of Platteville, Colorado and Diane (Ron) Hein of Magalia, California; several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and his Corgi dog, Hannah.
