ROGER WAYNE SLEEZER, 81, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at his home in Cherokee, Iowa.

Roger Wayne Sleezer was born on June 29th 1944 to Wayne and Fern (Spears) Sleezer in Cherokee, IA. He was a Cherokee resident throughout his life. After graduating with the Washington High School class of 1962, Roger began work as foreman on the Sleezer Roofing crew. He was united in marriage to Janet Lowder on November 19, 1966 and they remained side by side until her passing in May 2023. Roger became owner of the family company upon his father's retirement in 1983 and operated the business for several years. Later in life he worked at VT manufacturing in Holstein IA until his retirement.

Always a train enthusiast, Roger began working with HO model trains in the mid 1970s. He became an accomplished model layout builder and was a proud member of the Prairie Lakes Division of the National Model Railroaders' Association. True to his home town roots, Roger was a founding member of Cherokee Depot Restoration committee. It was through this group that he became a participant for many years in community events including the PRCA Rodeo and the Cherokee Jazz Festival.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Roger is survived by his brother, Paul Sleezer, of Cherokee and his two sons. Warren (Natasha) in Las Vegas, NV and Aaron (Susan) in Lebanon TN. His family also includes six grandchildren. Alicia Bechtal (Chad), Ankeny IA, Jeff Sand (Amber) in Grimes IA, Cole Renken (Jamie) in Sioux City IA, Savannah Sleezer in Henderson NV, Kathryn Sleezer in Lebanon TN, and Kyle Sleezer, also in Lebanon TN. In addition, Roger has six great-grandchildren at the time of his passing.
