RONALD P. CONLEY, 84, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, February 1, 2015 at his winter home in Mesa, Arizona.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, February 12th, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Ron was born on June 25, 1930 at Washta Iowa to Ernest and Henrietta (Hass) Conley. He graduated from Washta High School in 1947. He was married to Carole Stratton July 3, 1948 in Cherokee, Iowa. She passed away on January 16, 1986. He was later married to Donna Gould on January 1, 1987 in Cherokee, Iowa. Ron had been a resident of Cherokee since 1958 and prior to this had lived in Sutherland for a few years. He was originally from Washta, Iowa. He had worked as the Sales Manager at Caswell Manufacturing for many years and was Vice-President of OBECO in Cherokee until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a member of Kiwanis, and was a past board member of the Cherokee Work Activity Center and the Planning & Zoning Commission. Ron enjoyed walking, his biking group in Arizona, woodworking, stained glass, fishing, wintering in Arizona, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Carole, a brother Ernest "Bud" Conley Jr., brother-in-law Russell Baldwin, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Doris & Cliff Carlson.
He is survived by his wife Donna of Cherokee; four daughters: Deb (Neil) Nieman of Fargo, N.D.; Pam (Norm) Alm of Bend, OR.; Patti (Andy) Carlson of Cherokee, IA.; Ronda (Dexter) Brison of Bend, OR.; step-son: Frank Carlson of Minneapolis, MN.; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren: Sarah (Brian) Puhalla and sons Holden & Sawyer; Nathan (Amanda) Nieman and girls Bailey & Reese; Dylan (Alyssa) Alm and daughter Panama; Nora Moss; Daniel Alm and son Vedder; Amie (Tim) Schnoor and children Preston, Nessa, Landry & Crosby; Nicki (Shannon) Frank and sons Henry & Charlie; Kendra Brison; two sisters and one brother: Betty Baldwin of Forest City, IA.; Joanne (Lyle) Askland of Sanborn, IA.; Larry (Mary) Conley of Omaha, NE.; sister-in-law: Diane (Darrell) Weiland of Cherokee, IA.; also several nieces and nephews and many friends.
