Ronald E. Johnson, 79, of Calumet, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026 at his home in Calumet surrounded by family.

Private family graveside services will be held at the O'Brien-Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Calumet, Iowa. Pastor Tom Smith will officiate. The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Ronald was born on October 2, 1946 to Clarence and Alvena (Moss) Johnson at Ida Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1964. He was united in marriage to Patricia Nuzum on January 14, 1967 at Ida Grove, Iowa.

He worked in Wyoming on the oil rigs and as a farmer before returning to the area and working at Valley Vet as a veterinary assistant. He retired in 2008.

He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.

In his free time, he enjoyed riding horses and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.

He will lovingly be remembered by his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia Johnson of Calumet, Iowa; daughter Shannon (Patrick) McCluskey of Pierre, South Dakota; two grandchildren Nick (Elayne) Marbach and Emily Marbach (fiancé Phillip Giovannettone); also several nieces and nephews.
