RONALD C. JOHNSON, 72, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, December 2, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5th, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jon Riggert will officiate. Private family burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the Church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from

Ron was born on August 22, 1942 at Maywood, California to Karl M. & Dorothy (Hargreaves) Johnson. His family lived in Downy, California until he was 4 years old and then moved to rural Remsen, Iowa where he lived for the next 14 years, graduating from Remsen Public High School in 1960. He attended Westmar College for one year. He then lived in Marcus for 3 years, until moving to Cherokee. He enlisted in the Iowa National Guard in 1966, being called to active duty in 1968 and then honorably discharged in 1969. He was married to Janne L. Olson on July 5, 1968 at Cherokee, Iowa. He had worked as a farm hand for various farmers in the Marcus area, worked for Marcus Lumber Co. for 6 years, Olson Transfer in Cherokee as a truck driver and worked for the Cherokee County Secondary Roads Department for 27 ½ years retiring on October 1, 2004. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. He was a Cherokee Reserve Law Officer for 10 years, Santa's Helper for 25 years, Cherokee City Council for 8 years, North Star Credit Union Board for 6 years, N.R.A., Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his yard and garden, gun collecting, antiques and loved his family and his hunting dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Janne of Cherokee, three daughters: Julie & Mike Resch and their children Emily, Nicholas and Jennifer of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Aimee & Aaron Kohn and their children Alex, Cameron and Bailee of Cherokee, Iowa; Lisa & Daryl Ducommun and their children Dawson and Danika of Larrabee, Iowa; three sisters: Kathleen & Norman Nelson of Tacoma Washington; Karen Byrd of Tacoma, Washington; Barb Parrish of Florida.
