RONALD M. "RON" STEVENS, 78, of Washta, Iowa passed away Wednesday evening, June 27, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2nd, at 11 a.m. at the Washta United Methodist Church. Rev. Carolyn Hollar will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 1st from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. There will be military rites at the church on Monday by the Washta American Legion and the V.F.W. Burial will be in Grand Meadow Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Ronald was born September 26, 1933 at Kingsley, Iowa to Melvin and Lucille (Timmins) Stevens. He attended Kingsley schools. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was married to Darlys Dawson on December 21, 1957 at the Meadow Star United Methodist Church. Ron owned and operated Stevens Plumbing, heating and electrical business. He had also been water, sanitation and street superintendent for the town of Washta for many years. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church, was a former Lions Club member, member of Irving Powell Post #283 of the American Legion at Washta and L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. Ron was an avid hunter and loved to shoot trap and skeet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tom Stevens, sisters Donna VanMassdam and her husband Casey, his sister Diane Clay, brothers-in-law Carl Pitts and James Dawson.

He is survived by his wife, Darlys, his accepted son Maurie "Pete" Peterson of Amana, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Tom & Doris Dawson of Washta, Iowa; Audrey Pitts of LeMars, Iowa; Joanne Dawson of Cherokee, Iowa; Jack & Sharon Dawson of Chandler, Arizona; Verlin Clay of Otho, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends.
