Obituary
RONALD L. TOWNSEND, 81, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday afternoon,
October 17, 2012.
Private family services will be held at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Andrew Klumpp will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Ronald was born on September 19, 1931 at Cherokee, Iowa to Lloyd & Elaine (Geibe) Townsend. He attended Meriden Schools. He belonged to the National Guard for 10 years and later served in the U.S. Army being stationed in Anchorage, Alaska from 1954 until 1955. Ron was married to Velma Hohbach on October 7, 1960 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. He had many interests, but he loved farming and raising cattle on a farm in Spring Township for many years retiring in 1995 and moving to Cherokee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law Joan and Verlin Peters.
He is survived by his wife Velma; a sister: Jeanine Schroder and her husband Bob of Cherokee, Iowa; a half-sister: Linda Dierking and her husband Rod of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother-in-law Wilbur Hohbach; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Cuthrell and Lorna Schroeder; also several nieces and nephews.
