Obituary

ROWENA STEINBERG, 88, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Country Side Estates in Cherokee.

Rowena was born January 25, 1922 at Volga, South Dakota to John and Gertie (Vos) Dykhouse. She attended Cottonwood Elementary School in rural Volga and graduated from Volga High School in 1939. She was married to Arthur Steinberg on March 28, 1941 at Hopkins, Minnesota. The couple lived in Brookings, South Dakota for 10 years, Salem for 3 years, Sioux Falls for 3 years and resided in Cherokee since 1952 when she and her husband purchased Dee's Dairy. She was the office manager for Dee's Dairy from 1952 until 1960. She then worked as the Children's Librarian for 19 years at the Cherokee Public Library, retiring in April of 1983.She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Church Circle, former member of the Book Club and Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital Quilters. She enjoyed reading, quilting, spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed time at their lake home on East Lake Okoboji for 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur on June 11, 2001, brothers William, Charles and John and sisters Martha, Jeanette, Tillie and May.

She is survived by three sons: Rolland Wayne (Sandra) Steinberg of Alexandria, South Dakota; Roger Alan (Paulette) Steinberg of Rochester, Minnesota; Blaine Arthur (Marianne) Steinberg of Dallas, Texas; 6 grandchildren: Dan (Diane) and Craig Steinberg, Jeff (Barb) Steinberg, Kristi (Zach) Murphy, Nathan Steinberg, Natalie (Scott) Colip; 4 great grandchildren: Justin, Jason and Jack Steinberg and Teddy Sturm; two sisters-in-law: Gertrude Dykhouse of Volga, South Dakota and Esther Voss of Brookings, South Dakota.

At Rowena's request, a family interment will be held at Trinity Cemetery near Volga, South Dakota at a later date. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee is handling the arrangements for the family.
