ROY D. HOWARD, 65, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 16th, 2015 at his home in Cherokee surrounded by his family.
Prayer service and Masonic service will be held Wednesday, December 23rd, at 7:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Military rites will be held following the prayer service. Roy was born March 14, 1950 at Ames, Iowa to Roger and Anita (Longardner) Howard.
He graduated from Nevada High School in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam War from 1969 until 1975. He was married to Jean Wissman on March 14, 1971 at the Church of God at Madrid, Iowa. The couple had lived in Cherokee since 1985. He worked for Fareway Food Stores from 1965 until 1989, living in five different locations around Iowa due to his position with Fareway. After leaving Fareway he owned and operated Roy's Custom Woodworking and Roy's Archery from 1990 to present. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee. He was a member and Past Master of Speculative Lodge #307 A.F. & A.M., co-founder and member of Full Draw Archery and was a 4-H archery instructor. He enjoyed his grandkids, archery, fishing, hunting, shooting, woodworking and camping with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father Roger and a brother Ron Howard.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, 5 children, Roger (Carrie) Howard of Ankeny, Iowa, Rebecca (Logan) McGee of Fonda, Iowa, Ronda (Rolland) Latta of Alta, Iowa, Raymond (Lacey) Howard of Covington, TN, Renee (Lonny) Stull of Storm Lake, Iowa, his mother Anita Howard of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; 17 grandchildren; sister Jo (James) Thomas of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and brother John (Delena) Howard of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
