ROYCE W. MORTENSON, 86, of rural Cherokee, Iowa, passed away suddenly, Saturday morning, February, 20, 2016 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date with burial in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa. It was Royce's wish to have his remains cremated. There will be no visitation. Royce was born on September 10, 1929 at Cherokee, Iowa to Wilfred & Eva (Rasmus) Mortenson. He graduated from Larrabee High School in 1947. He was a Veteran of the Korea War, serving as Corporal with the 82nd AirBorne Division. He was married to Jacquelyn Finley on August 10, 1957 at Jackson, Minnesota. She passed away on October 21, 1987. He was later married to Jean Wolterman on October 21, 1996 at LasVegas, Nevada; she passed away on June 9, 2009. He was a farmer and dairy farmer with his brother Ronald for many years, and was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Royce was a member of the Cherokee Flying Club and owned his own plane He loved airplanes, motorcyles, cars and new types of gadgets that came out on the market.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives and a sister Janet Davis.

He is survived by his two children: Marc (Julie) Mortenson of Cherokee, Iowa; Connie (John) Wiemold of Cherokee, Iowa; four grandchildren: Cody Mortenson of Cherokee, Iowa; Chyenne Mortenson of Brookings, South Dakota; Adam Wiemold of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Megan (Jason) Pigott of Cherokee, Iowa; two great grandchildren: William and Clara Pigott; a brother: Ronald (Donna) Mortenson of Cherokee, Iowa; a sister Delores Devivi of Toms River, New Jersey; three step-children: Craig (Margo) Wolterman of Sugarland, Texas; Lisa (Roland) Wolcott of Austin, Texas; Scott (Valarie) Wolterman of Sugarland, Texas; five step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
