RUBY ROSE JOHNSON, 83, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, surrounded by her family at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery at rural Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Mike Agnew will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Ruby was born on September 28, 1940 to George and Letha (Small) Smith at Cherokee, Iowa. She attended Cherokee Schools, graduating in 1959. She was united in marriage on January 16, 1960 to Larry Johnson at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa.
Ruby worked for the Cherokee Mental Health as a Nurse's Aide and Medication Aide for 38 years until her retirement in 1996.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and ACC Club.
In her free time, she enjoyed going camping and spending time with family and friends. She also loved photography and fishing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ed Smith and Floyd (Carlen) Smith.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Larry of Cherokee, Iowa; sons, Kirk and Kamla of Cherokee, Iowa and Kerry Johnson (Sherri Haan) of Larrabee, Iowa; 4 granddaughters, Kortney Johnson (Christian Marcoe) of Omaha, Nebraska, Molly Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa, Mia Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa and Kaysie of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; siblings Bonnie (Gary) Lewis of Aurelia, Doris (Russell) Grashoff of Cherokee, Iowa; Roberta Radke of Alta, Iowa, and John (Lynette) Smith of Cherokee, Iowa; sister-in-law Patty Smith of Gold Canyon, Arizona; best friend Susie Gradert of Sioux Center, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
