Obituary

RUBY E. PIXLER, 87, of Loveland, Colorado and former Chrokee area resident passed away on April 30, 2013.

A visitation and time of sharing with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 7th, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, north of Meriden. The Boothby Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com. Funeral services will be held in Colorado on Saturday. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa.

Ruby was born on June 20, 1925 in Meriden, IA to Leonard and Edith (Anderson) Halstrom. She grew up in rural Meriden, IA and attended Liberty #6 Country School. Ruby graduated from Meriden High School in 1943. After graduation, she was a secretary for Lester C. Ary Law Firm in Cherokee, IA. She moved to Oakland, CA. and worked at Camp Knight for a year during World War II.
After Ruby returned from California, she married Phllip Hazen in 1946 and to this union, four children were born; Gary, Nancy, Beverly and David Hazen. She worked for many years at the Cherokee County Treasurer's office. In 1969, she married Max Pixler. After his retirement from farming they moved to Johnstown, Colorado in 1980 where they lived for 20 years. The couple moved to Loveland. Ruby then worked at Catch All Mini-Storage for her son, David Hazen, for many years. She was a member of Resurrection Fellowship Church in Loveland.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Max on on January 30, 2008 ; brother Milton Halstrom; sister Lorraine Mortenson and an infant sister, Delores Halstrom.

Ruby is survived by her children; Gary (Mary) Hazen of Eaton, Nancy Conley of Westminster, Beverly (Gary) Berger of Cleveland, MN and David (Janet) Hazen of Loveland; eight grandchildren, Suzette (Jeffrey) Fitzgerald, Gary (Heather) Berger, Jr., Tiffany Hazen, Sharise (Jimmy) King, Erick (Allison) Hazen, Melanie (Joel) Tauscher, Christina Hazen and Matthew Hazen; 12 great-grandchildren, brothers Marvin Halstrom and Jimmy Halstrom both of Meriden, Iowa; sisters Arlene Carlson of Peoria, Arizona, Phyllis Smith of Sheldon, Iowa and Bernice Steele of Spirit Lake, Iowa. Also a sister-in-law Joyce (Fred) Dady of Kayersville, UT; brother-in-law Robert Mortenson of Blair, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in Colorado on Saturday, May 4th at the Allnutt Funeral Chapel.
