RUSSELL “RUSS” McDONALD, 74, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Iowa City, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.

Russ was born April 19, 1951, in Keota, Iowa, to Herbert and Doris McDonald. He grew up in Keota alongside his siblings, Audrey Radmaker, Kenneth McDonald, and Marvin McDonald.

Russ worked for many years at West Liberty Foods, where he built a career through hard work and dedication before retiring. In 2019, he moved to Cherokee to be closer to family.

Russ will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love for his dogs, who were constant companions in his life. He had a way of bringing laughter and lightness to those around him.

He was deeply grateful for the care, kindness, and friendship he received in the Cherokee community, especially from Doug Goodburn and Sandy Peters, whose support meant a great deal to him.

Russ will be remembered fondly by family, friends, and all who knew him.
