Sally Kay Puhrmann, age 89 of Storm Lake, IA and formerly of Cherokee, IA, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, IA. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA. Pastor Mike Agnew will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in the spring. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.
Sally Kay Puhrmann,, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at the age of 88 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was born on December 19, 1936, to Alva and Bernice (Agnew) Jones in Cherokee, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee, IA, where she attended school.
On July 10, 1955, Sally was united in marriage to Ronald Puhrmann. To this union three children were born, Mark, Daryla, and Brian.
Sally dedicated herself to the care of others as a nurse aide at Sioux Valley Hospital. In 1973, Her entrepreneurial spirit and sense of adventure led her to Newell, IA where they owned and operated the grocery store. In 1976, she called Storm Lake home and worked for Noble's Manufacturing in Sac City. Yet, it was her return to Cherokee in 1977 that solidified her calling in healthcare, as she resumed her role as a nurse aide at the Mental Health Institute, nurturing countless patients until her retirement in 1999.
Sally was a member of the VFW and Rebecca Lodge #205. She had a passion for roller skating, fishing, and dancing. She also enjoyed coffee and laughter with friends, and her love for driving her car. Above all, she cherished the moments spent with family and friends.
She will lovingly be remembered by her children Mark and Susan Puhrmann of Newell, IA, Daryla and Doug Lockwood of Rembrandt, IA, and Brian and Kim Puhrmann of Newell, IA; grandchildren, Eric (Mindy Struss) Puhrmann, Erin (Tim) Hanson, Jenni (Jeff) Fulcher, Angi McBride, Jay Lockwood, Justin (Melissa) Lockwood, step-grandchildren, Khortni and Khennadi Seevers, Haylee, and Camryn Puhrmann, as well as her 18 cherished great-grandchildren, Trenton Struss, Sawyer Puhrmann, McKayla, Trevor and Brodie Hanson, Jaden Henrich (fiancé Kourtney Mundt), Josie Henrich, Alistair, Kenna and Bode McBride, Skyler, Riley, Ian, and Gunner Lockwood, Natalie, Kaiden, and Madilyn Lockwood, and step-great-grandchildren, Kloie and Zander Lockwood, and Jayde Bandy
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Berniece Jones, and her brothers, Don and Gary Jones, along with sisters-in-law, Vicki and Maurine Jones; and two nephews and one niece.
