SHIRLEY  J.  HANSON, 88 of Cherokee, Iowa passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Accura Healthcare of Aurelia.

Shirley was born on June 18, 1933 at Holstein, Iowa to Charles and Amanda (Sorensen) Pflazgraf.  She attended Holstein schools, graduating in 1951.

She was married to Egon L. Hanson on December 29, 1961 at Yankton, South Dakota.  She was a farm wife, doing whatever was asked of her while staying busy raising seven kids.    She later worked at the Skyline Motel as a maid and worked in housekeeping at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital.

Shirley was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

In her younger years, she enjoyed doing embroidery, completing word search books and gardening. She enjoyed animals but her passion was babysitting.  Shirley loved spending time with family and reading.  She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.  Shirley loved cheering on the Iowa football and basketball teams.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Egon on April 1, 2012, daughter Pam Maxwell, son Roger Hanson of Blue River, Wisconsin, three brothers Charles Pfalzgraf, Lee Pfalzgraf and Virgil Pfalzgraf; two sisters Mildred Lindsay and Gladys Keller.

She is survived by her children Lynn Smith of Cherokee, Iowa, Michael Hanson of Powell, Wyoming, Jeffrey Hanson of Glidden, Iowa, Danny (Theda) Hanson of Lothian, Maryland and Sandra (Kenny) Frank of Peterson, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
