SHIRLEY M. McCOY, 86 , of Quimby, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, May 21, 2022 at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 24". at 10:30 a.m. at the Quimby United Methodist Church in Quimby, Iowa. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, May 23rd from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements. Shirley was born on October 7, 1935 to A. Clarence and LaVerna (Lafrentz) Ludvigson at Tilden Township in Cherokee County, Iowa. She attended country school from Kindergarten until 5th grade and then Washta Consolidated School, graduating in 1954. Shirley was valedictorian of her class.
She was married to Howard D. McCoy on June 5, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein, Iowa. She then worked as a waitress in the Quimby Café. Shirley worked in the Miller-Mac Insurance office in Quimby having obtained her insurance license. She was the Clerk and Treasurer for the City of Quimby for 31 years.
Shirley was a member of the United Methodist Church at Quimby, Iowa, where she held most offices within the church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and helped with Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Quimby Spitfires and proudly served on the Quimby Library Board.
Shirley enjoyed sewing including her daughter's wedding dresses and prom dresses. She made quilts and Christmas dresses for her granddaughters. She was an avid reader and shared her baking talents with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard in 2015 and brothers, Kenneth Ludvigson and Virgil Ludvigson, sister and brother-in-law Mary Ann and James Fassler, brothers-in-law, Charles Prunty and Mike Stanford, and sister-in-law, Kathy Ludvigson; and son-in-law, Dr. Chet McLaughlin.
Shirley is survived by her children two daughters; Cynthia Ann Tonne and her husband Gene of Fairmont, Minnesota and Sandra Kay Kabrich of Selah, Washington; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; Erin (Josiah) Newendorp and their sons Nathaniel & Joel of Waukee, Iowa; Heidi Tonne of Omaha, Nebraska; Molly (Michael) Weinberger and their children Matilda and Abraham of Fairmont, Minnesota; Jayme (Brad) Walsh and their children Garrett & Lyla of Spokane, Washington; Kaitlin Kabrich of Manhattan, New York; Lacy Kabrich-Siegel and her sons Henry and Cooper of Seattle, Washington; siblings, Franklin Ludvigson of Cherokee, Iowa, and Annabelle Prunty of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters-in-law Kathleen Ludvigson of Washta, Iowa and Opal Stanford of Humboldt, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
