SHIRLEY J. SARGENT, 76 , of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Washta, Iowa, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Cherokee Specialty Care in Cherokee, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Mike Agnew will officiate.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until service time.  Burial will be at a later date in the Quimby Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa.

Shirley was born on November 21, 1946 at Quimby, Iowa to Jacob and Betty (Morrow) Sargent.  As a young girl, she attended Quimby Schools.

She worked as a bartender at the Hole in the Wall and Silver Spur, both in Washta, Iowa.  Shirley also worked as a babysitter, providing great care to the children as if they were her own.

Shirley was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

She was a simple lady and Shirley enjoyed giving things to those that she loved most.  Shirley liked to play Bingo, playing cards, and spending time with the people she cared about.  Shirley always looked forward to her pizza party birthday group.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob Sargent and Betty Small.

Shirley will be missed by her brother, Roger (Rochelle) Sargent of Washta, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Tina (Kelly) Ebel of Cherokee, Iowa, Tim (Tammy) Reinert of Ireton, Iowa, Daniel (Fran) Winkler of Gillette, Wyoming, and Shanna (Ben) Webster of Gillette, Wyoming; special people in Shirley's life, Dylan (Kelsi) Dalton of Quimby, Iowa; also several great nieces and nephews.
