STEVEN I. HIRSCHMAN, 70, of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 31, 2026 at his home in Aurelia, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa, Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present  from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home located at 207 E. Main Street in Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Steve was born on December 23, 1955 to Richard and Darlene (Hauger) Hirschman. He graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1974. He attended the University of Northern Iowa and earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing. He returned and began working at Bushlow’s Inc. in 1979. Steve was the parts manager and then was the shop manager and became the general manager of O’Halloran International until his retirement in 2019.

He was united in marriage to Kelli Grohe on June 5, 1982 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa, together they had three children.

Steve was a member of the Catholic Church.

In his free time, Steve found great joy in golfing with family and friends and was a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed sports betting, “shop meetings” with his coworkers, the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, “buffalo and timberwolf”. He especially cherished attending his grandchildren’s events, always showing up with pride and unwavering support. Steve cared deeply for his family and shared a unique and meaningful bond with each of them. Gifted with an easy smile and a warm spirit, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and made friends wherever he went. His wisdom, steady guidance, and willingness to always answer a call will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Darlene Hirschman, brother Rick Hirschman, mother-in-law and father-in-law Nona and Gordon Grohe, and brother-in-law Mike Grohe.

Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kelli of Aurelia, Iowa; three children Kati (Brian) Gorman of Ames, Iowa and their children Ella and Duke, Amy (Lyle) Schumann and their children Coy and Bryn Lewis and Graysen, Hudsen, and Samsen Schumann, and Nick (Ugo) Hirschman and their son Ike of Attleboro, Massachusetts; siblings Renee (Dan) Conley of Cherokee, Iowa, Jan (Peter) Koch of Austin, Texas, and Sue Hirschman of Fort Dodge, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Tyson (Julie) Conley and their children Theo and Alivia, Jon Conley and his children Cale and Ada, Christopher Koch (Marek Mroz) and Jessica Koch; half sister Tonia Bauer of Anapolis, Maryland; sister-in-law Sue Roberts (Joe Schmillen) of Cherokee, Iowa; also several other nieces and nephews.
