Susie M. DeYoung, 88 of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Meriden, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, May 12, 2013 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee, Iowa.

Susie was born January 25, 1925 at Holbrook, Nebraska to Oliver and Gittie (Johnson) Robeson. She was married to LeRoy DeYoung on March 17, 1960 at Dakota City, Nebraska. She had worked at the Hartley Creamery, Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department, Cherokee Mental Health Institute, Gregg's Hilltop Nursing Home (currently Careage Hills) and also cleaned homes and did alterations for many people. She loved watching her grandchildren, crocheting, many different types of craft work, making quilts, and also volunteered at the V.F.W. Susie enjoyed having coffee with the Meriden Town & Country ladies when she lived in Meriden. She was affiliated with the Methodist Church. She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She had been a resident of Countryside Estates the past 5 years and prior to this had lived in Meriden for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband LeRoy on January 26, 1990, a daughter Pearl Marie DeYoung, a son Harold LeRoy DeYoung, three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by two sons; Gary DeYoung and his special friend Jane Schmillen of Larrabee, Iowa; Danny DeYoung of Larrabee, Iowa; 3 grandchildren: Andrew and Adam DeYoung of Cherokee, Iowa; Brandon DeYoung of Meriden, Iowa; 4 sisters: LaVerne Magnussen of Cherokee, Iowa; Carol Johnson of Osceola, Iowa; Bonnie McDonald and her husband Jerry of Cherokee, Iowa; Mabel LaBounty of Storm lake, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
