THERESA M. VOLKERT, 55, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 10, 2011 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 14th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jon Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Theresa was born on June 14, 1956 at Sioux City, Iowa to Leo & Catherine (Brown) Eatinger. She attended school in Sioux City through the 10th grade and then graduated from Willow High School in 1974. She moved to LeMars following graduation and attended one year of beauty college. She was united in marriage on February 22, 1975 to Ardell Volkert at the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, Iowa. Theresa was a house wife and a cook for several area businesses throughout the years until her retirement on May 14, 2010. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee and enjoyed bowling & dart league. She also enjoyed collecting water globes, had a love of music, dancing and movies.

She was preceded in death by her father Leo Eatinger, grandparents, aunts & uncles.

Theresa is survived by her husband Ardell Volkert of Cherokee, Iowa; children: Steve Volkert and his wife Emily of Blair, Nebraska; Rebecca Carey and her special friend Eric Jenkins of Blair, Nebraska; SSG Danny Volkert and his special friend Christa Rassel of Saint Robert, Missouri; 9 grandchildren: Corben, Leah, Brett, Eleri, Austin, Tyler, Aubree Ann, Casey, Ethaniel; mother Catherine Kolb of Ida Grove, Iowa; siblings: Scott Eatinger and his wife Vickie of Sioux City, Iowa; Joseph Eatinger and his fiancé Nicole Hamman of Pomeroy, Iowa; Vincent Kolb and his wife Nancy of Ida Grove, Iowa; Richard Kolb and his wife Keri of Ankeny, Iowa; parents-in-law: Alvin & Erma Volkert of Quimby, Iowa; brother-in-law: Larry Volkert of Cherokee, Iowa.
