THOMAS L. "PAPA" FLESHMAN, 88, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee.
Thomas was born June 11, 1921 at Fresno, California to Claude and Lena (Linell) Fleshman.
He grew up in California. He was married to Doris Scott on June 10, 1962 at San Jose, California. He had worked in the Post Office in California and also worked many years as a Limo and Cab driver, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Elks, the Lions and the Eagles Club. He moved from Sacramento, California to Cherokee in 1992. He volunteered at Mid-Sioux in Cherokee for 10 years and also did volunteer work for the V.F.W. Auxiliary. He enjoyed music, playing the guitar and had a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Bill Fleshman in May of 2009, also several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, three step-daughters: Joan Percey of Cherokee, Iowa; Cora Kerstulovich of Morgan Hill, California; Harriett Ethridge of Boise, Idaho; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; a sister Helen Kuhn of Vista, California and a brother Edwin Fleshman of Crescent City, California.
It was Mr. Fleshman's wishes to be cremated and there will be no services. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee is handling the arrangements for the family. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
