Obituary

THOMAS V. "TOM" SAMUELSON, 69, of Quimby, Iowa and formerly of Washta, Iowa passed away Wednesday afternoon March 2, 2016, surrounded by his family in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, March 7th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 at the funeral home on Monday. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. with the family present from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Tom was born on December 30, 1946 at Cherokee, Iowa to Virgil & Lucille (Simmons) Samuelson. He graduated from Willow High School in 1965. He then attended the University of Iowa and Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. Tom was married to Bonnie Akkerman on September 16, 1972 at Rock Rapids, Iowa. He had farmed for several years, worked at Brown Auto Supply, Vern Anderson Implement, the YES Center, and at C.C.U.S.O., retiring in July of 2013. He was a member of the Quimby United Methodist Church. Tom belonged to the Quimby Golf Club, where he loved to golf, and was a volunteer greenskeeper, helped with the mowing and anything else that needed to be done.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jeannine Janssen, sister-in-law Connie Samuelson, nephew Robert Samuelson, brother-in-law Glen Blum, and niece Michelle Blum.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of Quimby, Iowa; daughter Wendy Samuelson of Des Moines, Iowa; two brothers: Douglas Samuelson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mike (Deb) Samuelson of Cleghorn, Iowa; sister-in-law Carol (Vince) Luitjens of George, Iowa; brother-in-law Harold (Ruby) Janssen of Sibley, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
