Obituary

V. ELAINE MAHONEY, 94, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Thursday evening, May 25, 2017 in the Cherokee Specialty Care.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 1st, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from

Elaine was born on December 27, 1922 on a farm near Holstein, Iowa to Everette & Opal (Whitehead) Beazley. She graduated from Washta High School and then attended Wayne State College. She was married to Leo V. Mahoney on February 20, 1941 at Redwood City, California. Elaine started working for the Swanson Grocery Store in 1962, working in their office as a bookkeeper. When Hy-Vee took over Swanson's in 1969, she continued working in their office as an accountant and was promoted to Cherokee office manager in 1979 and held that position until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, doing yardwork, and freezing sweet corn in the fall and sharing these with her family so they would always have frozen sweet corn at their family functions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo on June 8, 1993, a sister Barbara Birch and a brother Charles Beazley.

She is survived by her two daughters: Sharon Sease of Ankeny, Iowa; Pam (Danny) Schuver of Cherokee, Iowa; five grandchildren: Heidi (Kent) Nebel, Vicki (David) Giesselmann, Amy Schuver, Jeff (Carolyn) Schuver, Todd Hatterman; six great grandchildren: Jake Nebel, Liz and Alisha Giesselmann, Justus and Jaeten Pedro, Brenna Schuver; a sister Joanne Bell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
