VERONICA J. “RONI” TIMMERMAN, 77, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026 at her home in Cherokee, Iowaafter battling cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Pastor Mike Agnew will officiate. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery at rural Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Roni was born on June 26, 1948 to Dave and O’Linda (Bertsch) Hofman in South Dakota. She began country school in Parkston, South Dakota. She briefly attended Aurelia Elementary School and then Meriden School, graduating from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1966. She was united in marriage to Larry Timmerman on September 7, 1968 at Meriden, Iowa. She began working as a med-surg tech at the MHI in Cherokee. While her three children were little, Roni stayed home taking care of them and helping Larry on the farm. She then started cleaninghomes, painting and hanging wallpaper for people in Cherokee and the surrounding area. She eventually returned to the MHI in the maintenance department until her retirement.
She was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she faithfully participated in Joyful Charity Circle and generously helped with many church activities. She volunteered with the Ingathering, Vacation Bible School, church meals, funeral luncheons, and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed.
Never one to sit still, Roni always kept a full social calendar, spending time visiting shut-ins, taking people to appointments and attending her grandchildren’s many activities. She loved sending thoughtful cards to friends and loved ones, participating in Bible studies, playing cards, and working on puzzles. Her kindness, servant’s heart, and devotion to family and faith touched the lives of many.
Roni was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Charlie Bell, husband Larry, older sister Ruby (Jerry) Colvert, and brother-in-law Bob Harrison.
Roni will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Amy (Marlin) Stief of Cherokee, Iowa, Adam (Jana) Timmerman of Cherokee, Iowa, and Kent (Natasha) Timmerman of Cherokee, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren with two more expected this summer, Marshall (Bree) Stief of Cherokee, Iowa, Mitchell (Skylar) Stief and their daughter, Kimber of Cherokee, Iowa, Madi (Jarod) LeLoux and their daughter Laramie of Inwood, Iowa, and Maverick Stief of Cherokee, Iowa, Mason (Libby) Timmerman and their children Esther and Paul of Cherokee, Iowa, Alexa (John) Harper and their daughter Eden of Milford, Ohio, Jada (Jacob) Friedrichsen of Cherokee, Iowa, Cole Timmerman (Ava Simonsen) of Cherokee, Iowa, Trey Timmerman of Cherokee, Iowa, and Ally Timmerman of Cherokee, Iowa; siblings Deloris (Gary )Brown of Ozark, Missouri and Betty Harrison of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
