VIOLET B. ALDRED, 99, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday evening, March 5, 2015 at The Gardens Assisted Living.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 10th, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Violet was born on March 23, 1915 in Afton Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to John & Lottie (Hill) Covell. She graduated from Larrabee High School in 1934. She was married to Gordon M. Aldred on October 14, 1939 at Aurelia, Iowa. Violet had worked at the Mental Hospitals for several years until her retirement in 1975 when she and her husband moved to Cherokee. They had lived in Lincoln, Nebraska for 20 years prior to coming to Cherokee. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Larrabee Senior Citizens. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards, antiques and collecting dolls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon on October 5, 1985, two sisters Nettie Briscoe and Edna Swanson, one brother Jesse Covell.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, including: Rick (Terri) Swanson of Storm Lake, Iowa; Cleo (Bruce ) Spence of Sioux City, Iowa; Merle Covell and Frank Covell of Yankton, South Dakota; Geraldine Atchison of Salina, Kansas; long-time special friend Firmin "Gene" Huysendruyt of Cherokee, Iowa.
