Violet was born on July 10, 1918 to Henry & Elsie (Grienke) Sievert at Sac County, Iowa. She attended the Consolidated School in Galva until the 6th grade when her family moved to Cherokee. She was baptized on July 28, 1918 in Sac County and was confirmed on August 16, 1931 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1936. Her first job was at the Firestone Tire Store in Cherokee, where she worked for one year. She then went to work for Iowa Public Service Co. (Mid American Energy) for the next 41 years, retiring in 1980. Violet was united in marriage to her lifelong companion, Donald E. Guest on October 22, 1942 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Violet and Don loved to travel and took a 2 week trip every year, ultimately visiting every state in the union. They also visited Canada. Violet was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved her Lord and even though she was a rather quiet and gentle person, she never hesitated to share her faith in Jesus with those around her. She often did this through poetry which she had written. She thoroughly enjoyed reading it publicly at various gatherings like those on Memorial Day. She was also active in numerous groups at the church, including the church choir as well as community projects and financially supported the construction of the Cherokee Public Library and the swimming pool. She had been a resident of Careage Hills in Cherokee the past 4 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald on June 7, 1996 and her sister Marjorie Mahn on April 22, 2011.
She is survived by two nephews: Theodore "Ted" Mahn and his wife Pamela of Hot Springs, Arkansas and their son Chad (Cristen) Wheatley and their children Cameron and Cassidy Sheda of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Michael Mahn and his wife Diane of Auburn, Iowa and their family Stephanie (Brettan) Pyke and their children Emily, Mia and Anna of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Stacey (Bryant) Holt of Columbus, Nebraska.
