Obituary

VIRGIL L. RIEDEMANN, 69, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 3rd, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Larry Lemke will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be military rites at the graveside by L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 2nd from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Virgil was born August 8, 1944 near Germantown, Iowa to Clifford and Leona (Ahrens) Riedemann, he graduated from Paullina High School in 1962. He was a veteran of the U. S.Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He had lived in Cherokee for 38 years, in Manson for two years and was originally from Germantown, Iowa. He worked construction for a few years, then was a policeman for the Cherokee Police Department from 1976 until 1992. He then returned to the construction trade, having worked for Cherokee Lumber until his health failed. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, the American Legion, active in the Canine Unit with the Cherokee Police Department, and enjoyed his time fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Riedemann.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, one son Bryan Riedemann and his wife Tina of Paullina, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kayla, Curtis and Sarah Riedemann, his mother Leona Riedemann of Sutherland, Iowa; step-children, Kurt Kuester of LeMars, Iowa and Kim Kuester of Love Park, Illinois; one brother and two sisters; Dwane (Judy) Riedemann of Sutherland, Iowa; Charlotte (Warren) Hartman of Annandale, Minnesota; Carol Lowder of Sheldon, Iowa; special family members; Cindy Greeley and her children Chris and Nick of Cherokee; Mary Ganger of Tempe, Arizona, Jim Sundene of Omaha, Nebraska; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews
