VIRGIL H. SCHLINZ , 87, of Holstein, Iowa, formerly of Meriden and Cleghorn, Iowa, passed away Wednesday evening August 7, 2019 in the Good Samaritan Society at Holstein, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10 th , at 10 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Holstein Cemetery with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post ##2253 of the V.F.W. and the Cherokee American Legion There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Virgil was born on December 17, 1931 at Quimby, Iowa to Hugo and Florence (Sorenson) Schlinz. He graduated from Quimby High School in 1949. He was married to Anna Mae Kabisch on January 20, 1952 at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Virgil served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from November of 1952 until October of 1954.
Virgil farmed in the Grand Meadow area from 1954-1962; then in the Cleghorn area from 1962-1996; moving to Meriden, Iowa and then retiring in 1999. He continued to live in Meriden until moving to the Heartland Care Center in Marcus in 2010. He resided there for 3 years and then moved to the Good Samarian Society in Holstein where he had spent the last 7 years. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, had served on the Cleghorn Elevator Board, and was a member of the V.F.W. He enjoyed woodworking, mechanics, was a jack of all trades and could fix most anything.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hugo and Florence Schlinz, his wife Anna Mae Schlinz on June 28, 2014, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marvin and Phyllis Kabisch, Stanley "Bud" and Gloria Kabisch, and John Denton.
He is survived by his four children: Betty (Bob) Desko of Erie, Pennsylvania; Susan Jarvis of Albert City, Iowa; Dean (Shanda) Schlinz of Cleghorn, Iowa; Karen Gabriel of Eden Prarie, Minnesota; 8 grandchildren; Tina (Ben) Fox of Overland Park, Kansas: Josh (Jessica) Law of Fairhope, Alabama; Kristin (Shannon) Brown of Sioux City, Iowa; Stephanie (Mason) Cady of Spencer, Iowa, Jason Lindsay of Milford, Iowa, Derek (Felicia) Schlinz of Remsen, Iowa, Megan Schlinz of Valentine, Nebraska, Bryan Schlinz Cleghorn, Iowa; 14 great grandchildren: Bailey Fox, Avary and Tristen Law, Colin Reinhart, Sylvia, Sienna, Ivy, and Teagen Brown, Aiden and Brynlee Cady, Candace Lindsay, Jagger Becker, Madden and Foster Schlinz; sister Audrey Denton of Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
