Obituary

VIRGINIA ELLEN (GREEN) CROCKER, 90, of Cherokee, Iowa went to her eternal rest on Sunday, October 4, 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 8th, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Virginia was born to Lester and Lillian (Pierce) Green on October 28, 1918 and grew up in the South Ninth Street neighborhood. She attended school in Cherokee and graduated from Wilson High School in 1936. Virginia was married to Charles Coburn Crocker on June 19, 1938 and they were blessed with two daughters.

Virginia's home and family were her greatest joy. In her younger years, she planted and harvested a large vegetable garden. She excelled at cooking, baking, sewing, and handicrafts. She also worked outside the home as a bookkeeper and administrative assistant in several local businesses. Virginia was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church from the age of 19. She taught Sunday school for over thirty years, was a charter member of the Mary McDonald Missionary Circle, and served as a Deacon. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Pilot Rock Chapter) and the Order of Eastern Star (Carnation Chapter) for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on June 20, 1999.

She is survived by her two daughters: Jeanne Burroughs of Cherokee, Iowa; Elizabeth Burr and her husband Ronald of Vernon, Connecticut; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two brothers: Pierce Green of Cherokee, Iowa; Donald Green and his wife Delores of Cherokee, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
