Obituary

WALTER I. PRITTS, 95, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, November 7, 2017 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be at the Meriden Cemetery with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Walt was born on January 20, 1922 at Meriden, Iowa to Roy and Anna (Kos) Pritts. He graduated from Meriden Consolidated High School in 1940.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant.  He was married to Marjorie Reed on November 28, 1947 at Primghar, Iowa.  He had worked as a mechanic and owned his own service station in Meriden. He had also worked for the Meriden-Cleghorn Schools as a custodian in the Meriden School for 30 years, until his retirement in December 1983. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1993 and before this had lived in Meriden for 46 years.

Walt was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He had served on the Meriden Fire Department and Meriden City council for several years. He was also a 57 year member of Speculative Masonic Lodge A.F.& A.M. in Cherokee.  Walt enjoyed fishing and new mechanical inventions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie on November 11, 2009, and a sister and her husband, Martha and Willard Coleman.

He is survived by his three children: Steve (Diana) Pritts of Estherville, Iowa; Randy (Sandy) Pritts of Cherokee, Iowa; Carol (Randy) Woltman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: Pamela (Rejean) Barbeau of Kansas City, Kansas; Paul Pritts of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Chad (Melissa) Pritts and their children Dylan Trigg of Lawrence, Kansas, Chase and Brooklyn of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Justin (Tanya) Pritts and their children Brynn and Brecken of Cherokee, Iowa; Mark (Stephanie) Pritts and their children Jayla and Mason of Sheldon, Iowa; Lorrie (Jeremy) Hill and their children Ethan and Jackson of Olathe, Kansas; Jason Woltman of  Lakewood, Colorado; sister-in-law Eleanor Nielsen of Spencer, Iowa.
