WANDA MAE SAMUELSON, 100, of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away on Monday evening, April 3, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Holstein, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery at Storm Lake, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
Wanda Mae (Volkert) Samuelson was born on August 15, 1922 on a farm in Douglas Township, Ida County, Iowa to Edmund J. and Alma (Keller) Volkert. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Cushing, Iowa. She attended rural schools in Ida and Cherokee County.
On April 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Paul Freeman Samuelson in Holstein, Iowa. They were blessed with three sons and one daughter. They farmed for nearly 40 years, retiring in the fall of 1981, when they moved to Potato Lake in Northern Minnesota. After 14 years in Minnesota, they moved back to Iowa.
Wanda was a devoted wife and mother. Her hobbies were painting, crossword puzzles, quilting, and baking, which she loved to do.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons, Roger, Gary, and Ronald, brothers Alvin and Paul Volkert, sister Janet Hahn, sister-in-law Erma Volkert, brothers-in-law Jim Young, Wilbert Vohs, and Lorne Hahn.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Shari (John) Wesely of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, James (Marcia) Samuelson, Holly (Chris) Shill, David Samuelson, and Vanessa (Scott) Sakai; five great grandchildren; sisters, Frieda Vohs of Holstein, Iowa and Carolyn Young of Galva, Iowa; sister-in-law, Barb Volkert of Cherokee, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
