Obituary

WAYNE W. MORRIS, 62, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Saturday evening, February 28, 2015 in the St. Luke's Unity Point Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 5th, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Cherokee Community Theater P.O. Box 702 Cherokee, Iowa 51012 or The Gathering Place 207 W. Main St. Cherokee, Iowa 51012.

Wayne was born on December 20, 1952 at Sioux Rapids, Iowa to Lee & Mildred (Donaldson) Morris. He attended school in Webb, Iowa and graduated from Laurens High School in 1971. He was married to Shirley A. Tuttle on December 26, 1976 at Sioux Rapids, Iowa. This union was blessed with children Matt and Heather. He was later married to Mary A. Walker on April 4, 1997 at Cherokee, Iowa. Wayne had worked at Buskey's in Pocahontas, Iowa, Gomaco in Ida Grove, Ranco in Sioux Rapids, Gold Star in Laurens, R.J. Thomas Manufacturing Co. in Cherokee, where he had worked since 1996 and was currently in their Graphic Design Department. He had played in several bands over the years including The Senders with which he was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; he had also played with the New Sender's and with Phoenix. Wayne loved music and sound; riding his motorcycle; helping with the Cherokee Community Theater, helped organize the Cherokee Jazz Festival each year; he had also helped most of the churches in the area with their sound equipment; he was Cherokee's Citizen of the Year in 2007.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gary Morris, and a nephew Steven Michael Morris.

He is survived by his wife Mary of Cherokee; his son Matt Morris and friend Tiarra Eades of Cherokee, Iowa; his daughter Heather (Adam) Wagner of Spencer, Iowa; step-son Michael Walker of Slayton, Minnesota; step-daughter Lacey (Jeff) Daum of Tinker AFB, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; a brother Kent (Kathy) Morris of Atlantic, Iowa; a sister-in-law Cathy Morris of Auburn, California. Wayne will be missed by all and will be remembered for his willingness to help out in any way that he could.
