WENDELL P. URBAN, 71, of Cherokee, passed away Saturday morning, October 22, 2011 with his loving family by his side.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Claude Hogle will officiate. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Wendell was born on December 4, 1939 to Clyde & Arvilla (Clark) Urban at Holstein, Iowa. He was confirmed and baptized at Cushing United Methodist Church in Cushing, Iowa. He graduated from Cushing Consolidated School in 1959. After graduating, he attended auto body school. Wendell was united in marriage on September 27, 1964 to Suellen Cheevers at Sioux Rapids, Iowa. He had lived in Cherokee since 1992, prior to this in Storm Lake for 30 years. He worked as a body shop mechanic at Peterson Motors in Storm Lake for 25 years and also at Wilson Foods in Cherokee for 7 years before retiring in 1990 due to health reasons. He was a member of the Methodist church and also the Moose Lodge. As a teenager, he joined the National Rifle Association. Wendell enjoyed fishing, hunting and his stamp collection.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Daniel Urban.

Wendell is survived by his loving wife Suellen Urban; 7 children: Jim (Dorothy) Urban of LeMars, Iowa; Ted (Lucy) Urban of Welcome, Minnesota; Wendy (William) Biller of Cherokee, Iowa; Samantha White and her significant other Bob Shannon of Des Moines, Iowa; Shelly (John) Lenz of Peterson, Iowa; Sarah Countryman of Sutherland, Iowa; Holly Urban of Fairmont, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren; sister Marjorie Urban of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother Edward Urban of Riverside, California.
