WESLEY E. HIRSCHMAN , 98, of Marcus, Iowa and former long-time Fielding and Cherokee Iowa resident, passed away Friday April 11, 2014 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 16 ^th , at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ethan Sayler and Bob Blair will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Wesley was born February 23, 1916 on a farm north of Pierson, Iowa to Elmer and Fannie (Runion) Hirschman. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1934. He was married to Louise Woodall on August 19, 1937 in Cherokee, Iowa. Louise passed away on September 3, 1995  He was later married to Mary Woodall Rutter on September 21, 1996 at Marcus, Iowa. Mary passed away on October 5, 1999. Wes and Louise lived at Fielding from 1937 until 1981. They moved to Cherokee where Wesley lived until 2010 and then lived with family until entering Heartland Care Center in January of 2013. He operated a bulk fuel delivery service for the Marcus Community Coop for 43 ½ years, retiring in 1981. He was a former member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and was presently a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. He was a 50 year plus member of Little Sioux Lodge #521 at Washta and a member of Speculative Lodge #307 in Cherokee and was a charter member of the Marcus Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing, and bowling, but most of all spending time with his family and friends. In retirement he became CEO of Diddley Squat.

He is survived by 4 daughters; Gerry (Robert ) Swegle of Houston, Texas; Mary Ellen (Cliff) Oblinger of Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania; Jane (Rockie) Bork of Remsen, Iowa; Patricia Sivesind of Sioux Falls, South Dakota 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren 4 step-grandchildren, 12 step great grandchildren; one step great great granddaughter ; 3 step-children; Jean (Eugene) Benedict of Shelton, Washington; Tom (Linda) Rutter of Cherokee, Iowa; Doug (Betty) Rutter of Marcus, Iowa; one brother Robert (Alyce) Hirschman of Cherokee, Iowa; a sister-in-law Bonnie Irwin of Marcus, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
