William L. "Bill" Boothby, Jr ., 81, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Saturday evening, September 3, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by family.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa prior to the services on Friday at 9:30 a.m. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. William LeRoy Boothby was born on October 23, 1940 to William Boothby Sr. and Rosella (Reinert) Boothby in Cherokee, Iowa. He attended Quimby Schools, graduating in 1959. He began working for Cherokee Bottling Co. and then later on working for Wilson Foods Inc. He retired from Wilson Foods in April 2002.
Bill loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and his grandkids. He was an avid gardener, sharing seeds, and taking care of his precious flowers and plants. Bill always had a jigsaw puzzle on the table that he was working on and loved the help from whoever stopped by the house. He faithfully watched the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, giving them his words of wisdom through the TV. He enjoyed going fishing, canning, bowling, watching the birds, gambling, and reading the newspaper word for word.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Krista Ann Johnson, great grandson, Noah William Thompson, and four brothers-in-law, Elmer Hoeppner, Terry Rupp, Dave Gryp, and Harvey Allen.
Left to cherish Bill's memories are his children, Chuck (Vicki) Hill, Tammy Boothby and fiancé Dean Korleski, Penne (Mark) Cedar, Kari (Kevin) Sandine, and Jani Boothby (Brent Nelson); 17 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; seven sisters, LaRae Rupp, Rose Allen, Betty (Jack) Hill, Kris (Gary) Robinson, Annie Hoeppner, Joan Gryp, and Kayla (Tom) Smith; also several nieces and nephews.
