Obituary

WILLIAM G. "BILL" HURD, 85, of rural Meriden, Iowa passed away Monday afternoon, July 20, 2015 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Bill was born on February 17, 1930 on the family farm to William O. & Alma (Anderson) Hurd. He attended Meriden Schools, graduating in 1948. He was married to Marilyn Jacquitti Anderson on May 22, 1948 at the Anderson family home. He was born, raised and lived on the family farm. He was a lifetime farmer on the Hurd & Son farm. He also owned and operated Hurd Trucking for 30 years He retired from farming in 1995. Bill was affiliated with the Meriden Evangelical Free Church. He was a Cherokee County Supervisor for 16 years. He liked to stay at home and work. He enjoyed gardening and was the family's Mr. Fix-it. Family was very important to him and he and Jackie were inseparable.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Alma Hurd, his in-laws David & Geneva Anderson, brother Harold Hurd, brother and sister-in-law Vincent & Joyce Hurd, brother-in-law Duane Hollenbeck, sister-in-law Geraldine Grimm.

He is survived by his wife Jackie, five children: Nancy (Richard) Miller of Purdum, Nebraska; Karen (John) Lundell of Dodgeville, Wisconsin; William (Terry) Hurd of Cleghorn, Iowa; Rickey (Mary) Hurd of Wagner, South Dakota; Michael (Suzanne) Hurd of Sammamish, Washington; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two sisters: Elaine Hollenbeck of Cherokee, Iowa; Naomi (Donald) Turner of Gravois Mills, Missouri; brother-in-law Lavern Grimm of Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
